Rome: Making the Most of a Romantic City Break

Rome: Making the Most of a Romantic City Break / Blog Simplicity in Vogue - where to go for holidays, romantic places to visit, italy, italian cities, travel tips, what shoes to wear for travel

Rome is one of the best places in the world for a romantic city break. The city itself is packed with romance, culture and history. When in Rome, you are surrounded by gorgeous architecture and scenery. There are romantic restaurants at every turn, and there are plenty of magical corners for a romantic moment.

Its reputation as one of the most romantic cities in the world also means that it’s filled with passionate people. When in Rome you are surrounded by couples looking for romantic breaks. People are proposing and declaring their love for each other. Restaurants are packed with tables for two and people holding hands and gazing at each other lovingly. It’s easy to get carried away with it all, and even the less romantically inclined amongst us can start to feel a little loved up.

Unfortunately, however, with so many places to visit and so much to see, it’s easy to find yourself feeling rushed. You don’t want to waste a second of your time in Rome, but this just makes you feel pressured and ruins the mood unless you find ways to make the most of your time.

Take a Camera

If you are heading to Rome on a romantic break or even for an elopement wedding, you might want to consider booking something like Amalfi Coast Proposal photography to help you capture the magic moments. But, even when you aren’t using a professional, it’s a good idea to take a camera, so that you can leave your phone at the hotel. This helps you to avoid distractions and focus on what you want to do.

Pack Comfortable Shoes

You’re never going to make the most of your time in Rome or any other place you might be visiting if you are limping around with sore feet after your first few hours pounding the pavements. Pack flat and comfortable shoes to help you get around without pain.

Outsmart the Crowds

Do your research before you visit. For some attractions, you’ll be able to book fast track tickets online, so that you can avoid the queues. But, for others, it’s a good idea to look at what times they are at their busiest. Most are quieter either straight after they open, or the hour before they close. Look at peak times, and plan your visits to avoid the crowds.

Get Up Early

Starting your days early gives you the best chance to do more with your limited time. Get up, have a big breakfast and get exploring as early as you can. This should also help you to avoid the crowds.

Plan your Days

Wandering around aimlessly can mean that you waste time. Instead, plan your days out. Plan which attractions you want to visit and even where you want to eat and which clothes you will wear. This will also minimise the time that you spend walking between destinations.

Get Away from Tourist Hotspots

There are so many tourist attractions in Rome. They are wonderful, but always busy. If you want to do more, avoid some of these, and instead explore less well-known areas, and eat in less popular restaurants.

Get on Your Bike

A bike can be a fabulous way to get around quickly. Bicycles are available for hire either for the day, or the duration of your trip. It makes a cost-effective alternative to cabs and it's great for the environment.

And there you have it! Thank you so much for reading! I would love to hear from you in the comments! So tell me, have you ever been to Rome or would you like to visit it someday?

See you soon! :)

xx,
Andrea
