How Dogs can Benefit your Psychological Wellbeing

It is a well-known fact that dogs are great for your mental health. More and more research is being done every day to prove this, and they can also help with any psychological issues that you have as well. Besides being cute and the friendliest animals on earth, here are some other benefits that might make you want to have a dog right now.

Mindfulness

Dogs can help you to be more mindful. They encourage you to get out of the house and the sheer sight of seeing your dog’s tail wag away can be enough to put a smile on anyone’s face. Dogs also love to smell things, listen out for sounds and even enjoy the current moment. This can inspire you to do the same, and they are also great at providing emotional support. Some people even find that dogs help to support their mental health by being their anchor. Your dog will always be there to greet you when you come home after a long day at work, and they can also brighten your morning by bounding around while they wait for their walk. There is just something about these lovable animals that promotes a positive mental attitude, and wellbeing.

Relieving Stress

Life is full of stressors. You may even find that you have a to-do list that is never-ending. There have been a ton of studies done on the psychological benefits of having a dog come to work with you and so many companies are employing this in their own policies. Dogs are also being used in therapy sessions to try and help people relieve stress too. By having your own dog, you can take advantage of these benefits every single day.

Emotion

Dogs are able to sense emotion. They know when something is wrong and when they do, they will always do everything they can to comfort you. They may put their head on your lap, paw at you or even nudge you with their nose. All of this is their way of trying to comfort you, and they really are intelligent animals. Sure, they might not be able to talk or give you any advice but sometimes, you don’t need that. You just need someone to listen to your problems and be there for you, and a dog will always be that go-to.

Self-Care

Sometimes life can get so busy that the idea of self-care goes out of the window. You may not have time to shower, to cook a proper meal or even get out of the house. A dog can help you with that, by motivating you to get out of the house to give them a walk, or even to encourage you to get out of the house to pick up some more dog food. You also have to take them to the vet, and buy them treats from time to time. This helps them to keep their teeth healthy and it also helps them to maintain a healthy weight. If you want to know what can you give your dog for bad breath you can find that out here. You might be able to neglect yourself, but you can’t neglect them. This can have a knock-on effect in your own life because by making yourself responsible for something else, you can then be more responsible for yourself.

Let me know in the comments what you think about it! Are you crazy about dogs like I am? Haha...

See you soon! :)

Andrea
