Hi, everyone! In today's post, I'm sharing the outfit I wore for the last night of the year 2017. I'm also talking about my approach to new year's resolutions and goals and my tips on how not to fail them. And last but not least, I created a freebie with a positive message for you to download and use on your computer/laptop or smartphone.

My approach to new year's resolutions

First of all, how is 2018 treating you so far? Did you already give up on some of your resolutions? Or you don't even bother making them? Some people say, and I totally agree, that we don't need to wait for the new year to create our resolutions. Every day is a new day and if we have the chance to be alive for one more day, we also have the chance to try to be a better person, a chance to work hard to accomplish our dreams/goals, and so on. So if we fail, we can restart all over again on the next day. Don't give up!

But having said that, I still do new year's resolutions. Actually, I don't like calling them resolutions. I prefer the word goals because it sounds like something more real with a plan that I can easily follow and try to accomplish. The thing is, we all have to follow a calendar for almost everything in our life. So, when we do this at the beginning of the year, it becomes easier to measure our achievements and see how far we have come or not at the end of that year.

We can always reevaluate or set up new goals each new day or each new month. When we fail, we can always try again and again and again; we have the entire year for that. Actually, we have our entire life, until when we die. For example, I already failed one of my goals that it was to write at least one post per week here on my blog. But I'll not feel demotivated by that, I still have all the other weeks to try to accomplish it.

On the other hand, I've also been successful in keeping up with some other goals, like exercising every day, at least 15 min, praying every day and so on. When we write down on a paper what we want to accomplish, it's like a commitment that we are doing to ourselves. Somehow, and I don't know why it becomes easier to achieve anything we want after that. And when the year ends, it's nice to look back and see what we have accomplished and also what we haven't.

But don't only write down your goals, try to come up with a plan that you can follow step by step to achieve them and most importantly, have discipline. It also helps to turn these resolutions/goals into habits. Because when something becomes a habit, it's much easier to do and follow. And doing just a little bit of something every single day is much better than not doing anything at all.

Freebies

Positive quotes and reminders are always helpful to keep us motivated, don't you think? Some days we may feel overwhelmed by all the work or problems in our lives. So positive reminders are great to help us shake off all that bad energy that is dragging us down.

I created this desktop wallpaper as a reminder for you to believe more in yourself this year. Every time you open your computer/laptop or smartphone, you will be reminded that you are much more capable of accomplishing your dreams and goals than you can ever imagine. But you can only do it if you believe in yourself and have total faith in your capacity. With enough confidence, you can conquer the world.

Outfit of the day

It's a tradition in my family to have a new year's eve family dinner. I think that, regardless of the reason for the celebration, it's always good to have an excuse for a special dinner at home or out in a restaurant. It's also a way to celebrate our year's achievements or at least the fact that we survived that year.

When I was younger and before being muslim, I would give much more importance to it. I would always buy new clothes, shoes and jewellery to wear on that night. Nowadays, these things are not important to me anymore and as a minimalist, I only buy something new when I really need it. What matters to me now is to be around the people I love.

I have this outfit for about 2 years. These skinny jeans and turtleneck shirt are like a uniform to me. I wear them almost everytime I go out. On the other hand, I haven't worn the cream shirtdress and scarf so much, maybe one or two times since I bought them. I don't really like light shades like white or cream on my skin tone. I could NEVER be a doctor because of that, LOL. So, as it's kind of a tradition here in Brazil to wear such colours for the new year's eve, I decided to take the opportunity to wear them again.

Please, I'm really sorry for the image quality. There wasn't enough light there. Plus, a reminder to all of us: don't ever take pics on a wall that is the same colour of your clothes, haha.
